Another Jam Packed Weekend – Saturday Update

Another weekend full of going out….again! And it’s only Saturday! I think we only ate at home once or twice the whole 2 weeks that mom was away! On Friday night we spent about 4.5 hours steaming chair covers, putting them on about 150+ chairs, and tying the knots behind them. There were 5 of us there and by about midnight we were all dead tired! Carmen and Rhonda even had to get up before dawn to coordinate the wedding! I hope they don’t overexert themselves. Luckily Stella is job-shadowing today, and I know she’s very competent, so I hope she can help wherever possible. You can read more about the wedding at http://www.devotedtoyou.ca/blog

Here are some pics we took there:

Today while Carmen and Rhonda were working the bros asked me to have dim sum with them. Of course, I was the only one without a child:

Amanda and Brady were extremely funny….especially Brady. I can tell he is totally infatuated with Amanda. As we were leaving he said he wanted to hold Amanda’s hand and she said no….so he cried his guts out. After Eric promised Amanda some cream puffs for holding Brady’s hand, she said yes and he started to laugh and smile and wipe his tears off discreetly.

The next pic does me no justice. I am not that bad of a kid sitter:

Since we had dim sum at Market Village, after lunch we got to walk around a bit. This model caught my eye:

I knew that they’ve been planning on scrapping Market Village and building a new one for a long time….but I didn’t know they were going to make PacMall look like a sideshow! This is truly amazing…PacMall is supposed to be the largest indoor Chinese shopping mall in North America. With the new Market Village, the parking is going to go from “Unbearable” to “Why Even Bother”. I really wish they can pull this off…but I have a feeling the demand was totally gone after PacMall. Look at Splendid Tower. Look at First Markham Place. I can continue to name every different Chinese shopping mall…it’s quite evident. No one needs another Chinese mall full of cell phones and pirated DVDs.

After the brief walk I went to my grandparents-in-law’s place to pick up my cousin Andrew. We were going to watch Piranha 3D. Finally, an old school horror/college break flick! (BTW, that last scene in the trailer, which is the screen cap here, wasn’t in the movie. They must have cut it out.)

The movie stars the super beautiful (from my heyday as a kid) Elizabeth Shue and Jerry O’Connell, whom I loved when he played Quinn in the TV series Sliders. They even had a Richard Dreyfus cameo in the beginning. Hey, someone still remembers him from Jaws! Oh, there was also another cameo from Christopher Lloyd. I dunno, but every time I see him I can only picture him saying 1.21 jigawatts in my head.

So how was the movie? Well, I couldn’t really tell 3D in the most part…but there were a lot of blood, and a LOT of nudity (you can probably picture it in your head after watching the trailer)…well, at least it was GOOD nudity and not gross nudity…and it’s sorta 3D (which is a +++)

While waiting for the movie to start we saw one of those vending machines out front. Usually I leave them alone, but this one had an amazing name:

I dunno about you…but which one of those guys look like Bok Choy to you? (well, maybe the green guy)

After the movie, Andrew and I hit Times Square for some grub. When we got there the parking lot was packed! Luckily I found a spot right when we arrived. As we got out of the car we could smell a VERY strong stinky tofu scent. Immediately, I knew when there is stinky tofu it means there is a night market somewhere. Andrew confirmed it to me…he said he remembered there was something happening today at Times.

So we made our way to the stinky tofu stall. There were only about 10 people in front of us so we lined up. After about 5 mins the line was still not moving, so we just said “the hell with it” and went to Lam Yuen. On the way we bumped into Carmen Koon and she told us that stall’s stinky tofu tasted pretty crappy. Oh well!

Tomorrow Carmen and I have a lot of worshipping to do, on her side and my side. Then we are off downtown to meet up with Oliver and Jazz for brunch. Then we are picking mom up from the airport. She is finally coming back from her cruise! Yay!
