2010 Toronto International Film Festival

It’s MIDNIGHT MADNESS at TIFF! I love everything about it except 2 things: Carmen doesn’t watch horror, and many movies are shown at midnight on weeknights =(

Here are the top movies I hope to go see this year for the Midnight Madness portion (in order of preference):

1) Vanishing on 7th Street – Starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, and John Leguizamo. It’s about one day you wake up and everyone disappeared (except for a few)

2) Stake Land – Don’t know the people who star in it, but the backdrop is similar to Zombieland, but with vampires, and no comedy.

3) The Ward – Long time legendary horror director John Carpenter’s new movie after a very long hiatus.  Don’t know the people who star in this either, but it’s about a troubled girl in a mental institution haunted by ghosts.

4) Bunraku – Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Gackt! About a surreal world where guns are outlawed and 3 people join forces to defeat a crime lord. It’s part western, part samurai, part kung fu movie! What’s not to like???

5) Insidious – A movie similar to Amityville.

We bought 20 tickets, so we should have more than enough…just have to find the time!

Other movies we are looking to watch are:

Black Swan – Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder, and Mila Kunis!

Barney’s Version – Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, and others. About a guy who marries three women.

The Town – with Blake Lively, Ben Affleck. About a group of people who stage robberies, and one of them got close to one of the hostages.

Henry’s Crime - with Keanu Reeves. After going to jail for a robbery he did not commit, he comes out looking to rob for real.

The Legend of the Fist – Return of Chen Zhen - Donnie Yen in the sequel to Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury! Apparently he didn’t die! (How’d that happen?)

Norweigian Wood – a Japanese love story. I don’t know the lead characters, but Carmen tells me this is going to be one hot movie (chick flick-wise, I am assuming)

Stone – Robert DeNiro, Edward Norton, Milla Jovovich.  Amazing cast! A cat and mouse about Edward Norton, a prison inmate, getting his wife (played by Milla) to seduce the person who has control over to let him walk free or not (Robert DeNiro).

This is great! It’s going to be a packed TIFF this year…so many stars in so many star-studded movies!
